International Women's Day Wisdom with Monique Wolfhaardt

In celebration of International Women's Day 2024, we're shining a light on some of the remarkable women influencing the landscape of Planet Sport.

We spoke to Cape Town-based Monique Wolfhaardt, our Head of Technical and Customer Support, about her role and her advice for pursuing a career within the industry.

Hi Monique, Please give us a summary of what you do here at Planet Sport and what your day-to-day role involves.

I am the Head of Technical and Customer Support + the Project Coordinator for PS South Africa team.

My day to day involves acquiring information the developers need to get new integrations/projects over the line, project management, management of clients and onboarding new clients who are interested in our SMS and editorial services.

On the support side, I ensure that all our products are monitored/reviewed daily and that client queries are resolved in a timely manner.

We also have our video curation team that I oversee who ensures that our delivery of video content is transcoded, processed, and added to our various sites and video portals.

Which women inspire you the most?

My 86-year old Grandmother. She taught us to stand our ground and to fight for what is right.

What advice would you give to women aspiring to pursue careers in the industry, based on your own experiences and lessons learned?

1. Don’t give up. It might seem like your hard work and efforts are not being seen. There’s always someone who sees your potential.

2. Knowledge is power. Learn as much as you can and don't be afraid to ask questions.

3. Maintain a work-life balance. Without it, burnout is inevitable.

4. Be flexible and adaptable.

Looking ahead, what are your professional goals and aspirations, and how do you plan to achieve them?

I continuously try to research and learn more on how to effectively manage, support the team and to further develop my management skills. There’s always room for improvement.

Thanks, Monique!
