Leeds Digital Festival: Our Top 5 Event Picks

Leeds Digital Festival 2022 is a fantastic celebration of digital culture in all its forms. Running from the 20th-30th September in our home city, there are some great events on. Here are our 5 must-see picks!

1. Digital Sport North: An Evening with Meta’s Peter Hutton

Thu 22nd Sep 2022, 6:00pm - 10:00pm

Belgrave Music Hall, Cross Belgrave St, Leeds LS2 8JP

Peter-Hutton_Meta_Leaders

OK, so we are bound to pick this one as we're a proud sponsor of the night, but this is really quite special for us sports types. Peter Hutton is a hugely respected figure in the sports industry and he is returning to where it all started for him - Leeds - to talk about his role liaising with the sports industry for Meta. We're hoping to hear the former Eurosport CEO tell us all about his glittering career working on pretty much every major sport event plus launching and running some of the biggest sports TV channels across Europe, Asia, the Middle East and North Africa and the Indian sub-continent.

2. How to win at Twitter

Thu 22nd Sep 2022, 1:00pm - 2:00pm

Hatch Communications, Magellan House, Armouries Way, Leeds, LS10 1JE

Hatch_How-to-win-at-Twitter

Hosted by PR gurus Hatch, this one is a masterclass in how to be good at running a Twitter account for a brand or business. Successfully running a Twitter account for a brand or business can be very challenging – in fact, you might not even be convinced that having one is the right thing to do. But we - and Hatch - believe the rewards are more than worth the hassle. Not only can you reach lots of people, and be part of what’s happening in the world, but you can drive actual business results. It will be interesting to hear their take on all that.

3. Web3: What it is, Why it matters, How to get started

Thu 29th Sep 2022, 3:30pm - 5:00pm

Calls9, 1 Broad Gate, The Headrow, Leeds, LS1 8EQ

Calls9_Web3

Web3 promises to transform how we experience the Internet and how we transact online. But how much is smoke and mirrors and how much is going to really do what people say it is going to do. We've heard of the terms such as the blockchain, NFTs and metaverse. But, what do they all mean in real-life practice? How can you apply it to your business, digital products or services? Those smart people at Calls9 are going to tell you.

4. Is Gen-Z Shaping the Creative Industry?

Thu 22nd Sep 2022, 10:30am - 11:30am

Hatch Communications, Magellan House, Armouries Way, Leeds, LS10 1JE

Hatch_GenZ-Creative-Industry

OK, so this isn't meant to be a Hatch love-in, but the guys over at Leeds Dock are onto a winner here for us. So-called Gen Z are courageously creative but are they really driving our creative industry? The media and marketing industries are constantly evolving, but– there’s always a “but” – is it evolving enough for Gen Z? Here Hatch are offering you the chance to spend an hour with their studio team, who specialise in graphic design, branding and animation, to learn how their creative output is being driven at pace by the Gen Z generation. Sounds a great session.

5. The Data Crowd – Festival of Data Session #3: Women in Tech & Data

28th Sep 2022 6:00pm - 8:30pm

Flutter HQ, 4 Wellington Place, Leeds LS1 4AJ

Data

Now Leeds is chock full of female data leaders, names such as the awesome Anna Sutton at The Data Shed and amazing Zandra Moore of Panintelligence certainly spring to mind, but we thought this session looked like a great showcase of some other female leaders in similar fields. Hosted by those data boffins The Oakland Group & HyperFinity, this is an evening designed to celebrate all things Data, Leeds and Diversity. The Festival of Data brings together a host of amazing speakers including UK Leading Chief Data Officers and some of the brightest Data Engineering minds in Europe, this is an event to truly showcase Leeds as a leader in the UK Data landscape. Given our areas of business we're especially keen to hear what ITV's Fay Fletcher plus SBG's Rachael Morgan and Fehmina Nawaz have to say.

We're really just scratching the surface here though, so hopefully we've whetted your appetite enough to encourage you to head on over to Leeds Digital Festival, and get planning your own itinerary. See you on the circuit!
